The red thread

“Red Thread” is a durational performance where we explore the concept of rituals myths production and feminine labour. A performative setting is created, which revolves around questions of translocality and our behavior with plants, and objects of waste by using traditional and ritualistic elements. With a red thread we will create a garland to wrap the building or room with plant leftovers plant waste and other waste objects. Plants that are sorted out because they don't meet the beauty criteria (anymore) are in a liminal space and time - not rotten yet but not worth to be looked at anymore. We knot garlands of these plants and objects with a red thread. We keep a tab for every knotted object drawing parallels to the concept of labour and translocal rituals and beliefs.

In todays world of hyper consumerism we tend to love all objects including flowers. What happens to our discarded object waste and the withered flowers? What does the labyrinth mean to us? Does it involve the maze of ecology and migration of people and plants alike? It would be naïve to assume that we have answers for these questions, on the contrary the red thread tries to explore these questions.
